Cabinet is a piece of furniture which has shelves and drawers for safe keeping of valuables. In the past a carpenter was called a cabinet maker. Cabinets seem to have originated in Italy in the 16th century. In those days, cabinets used to be very small and could easily be kept on a chair or table. They had several drawers and were used to keep only jewellery, money or any other precious items. The early cabinets were delicately designed and had a high cost.
