Herbalism Treatment for Abscess
Make a hot poultice from a herb such as Marshmallow (Altbea officinalis) for external treatment of the area. Either pours boiling water on to some fresh leaves. Or mix the powdered root with hot water to make a paste. It may be helpful to use a little oil on the skin first to stop the poultice sticking then place the herb on the abscess and cover with clean gauze or strips of cotton holding in position as above. Such a poultice can be kept on for several hours but. May need replacing very couple of hours. Another excellent herb to help draw out pus is Slippery Elm (Ulmus fulva): use the powdered inner bark as for the Marshmallow root above. For mouth abscesses it may be appropriate simply to place a hot compress, made with an infusion of Chamomile (chamomile recutita) on the cheek over the area until a doctor or dentist can be seen. Internal treatment as described under Boils will be most helpful in cleansing the system as a whole and boosting immunity.
Homeopathy Treatment for Abscess
Hot compresses are likely to be suggested by practitioners here too, perhaps using tinctures of Hypericum or Calendula. Pour 15 ml (1 tbsp) of hot water on to 2 drops of either remedy and soak pieces of gauze in it. Place on the area and cover, renewing when cooling down. Internally, take a few doses of either hepar slush if the abscess is hot throbs with pain and is very tender to the touch, or else Silica if the abscess, although equally painful feels cold to the touch and the discharge is slow to clear up. These two remedies are very good for suppurating (oozing) skin conditions generally, given their different symptom pictures.
Naturopathy Treatment for Abscess
If nothing else is available use just hot water to make a compress or put a hot water bottle over the affected area. You can use cabbage leaves from the garden with excellent results, take a few of the outer leaves cut out the central rib and coarsely chop the leaves pour on boiling water and make a poultice as outlined above. This is very soothing and helps to dread out infection. You may obtain Kaolin from a pharmacist to make a poultice spread on a dressing and use over the area. When an abscess bursts, cover with a sterile dry dressing. For repeated problems a program a programmer of dietary form will be most helpful for further information.
